Woke up Friday morning to some rain and drizzle, but we were excited because today we were going to have Hot Pot AND go to Hotsprings. We realized which day it was and decided to show Yushin the Friday video by rebecca black because she has been missing out. She was obviously horrified and delighted at the same time.
We gathered our things for the hotsprings and headed over to Ximen for our hot pot lunch. Our new friend Kevin met up with us and we got a double pot table with 4 broths. We got a ton of meat and veggies, about 14 trays of meat ranging from beef, pork and lamb. For those of you that don't know what hot pot is, you have a bunch of raw meats and veggies and you cook them in the boiling broths. You have dipping sauce that you dunk the food in and you eat it up, at the same time having yummy broth to sip on. Its super fun and delicious, the perfect lunch on this rainy day.
After lunch, Matt bought a medical mask to wear like a local since he was still feeling sick, the effect was pretty comical. While we were waiting for him we looked around at some of the shops.
We headed to the hot springs area of Beitou on the Subway line, took us a little while to get there since it was out of the main city. It was pouring rain so we had bought umbrellas earlier on. When we got out of the station Jess goes to open hers up and the umbrella broke and sliced her finger open pretty bad. I was frightened of mine because it was the same cheap umbrella jess got , and sure enough the thing broke right away. So the 5 of us trudge through the streets in the rain looking for a good hot spring resort to go to. After about 20 minutes we settled on a hotel.
We paid about 11 bucks to do the hot springs, we separated from the boys because it was a nude bath, no clothing allowed! Jess, Yushin and head to the lockers, strip down, rinsed off and dove in! It was a little strange at first getting naked with your friends for the first time, plus there were about 5 other women there, but we got over it pretty quickly. Well, Jess and I did, Yushin proceeded to try and "cover up" the whole time, even though we had seen all the goods
So this place being a Japanese bath, there was a really hot pool and a cold pool. You sit in the hot pool for a few minutes at a time, then you soak in the cold pool, switching back and forth. We soaked for over an hour and chatted, at the end we went and layed down on this big marble slab in the room, felt soooo nice.
We met up with the boys again and decided to go get some coffee. We walked around a bit and enjoyed the clearing skies, Yushin was sad abut her poofy hair.
We tried going back to the With House, but it was closed for an event, so we went to a fancy coffee house nearby. They served our expensive fancy coffee in cups and saucers, and the other kids played some dice game. It was nice and relaxing after our after noon of soaking.
Matt, Jess and I had wanted to check into a hostel that night, but we couldnt find any that we liked that wasn't over booked. After some searching, for found the Chocolate Box hostel and booked it for the next night. Yushin called it an early night, so me, Matt and Jess went to meet Jess' friends at a bar called The Revolver. There were a lot of foreigners there, so of them very strange. We met up with our new friends Daniel, Robyn, Joy and other people i can't remember their names. It was fun talking with everybody, just hanging out felt really natural and made it seem like we were just in another US city chilling out with friends. After I got a couple beers out of Matt and Daniel we headed back to Yushin's place. However, we ended up going on adventure instead when Jess drunkenly told the cab driver to go to the wrong town. Over an hour later, after stopping to ask shop keepers and firemen directions, we call Yushin and discover we are VERY lost and went completely the wrong way. Poor Jess was pretty embarrassed but it could happen to anyone. We finally made it back and hit the hay.
Thats all I can write about right now, super sleepy. Tomorrow is my last full day here and Jess and Matt are flying out, so I will try and finish up writing about the trip by then!
