Wednesday and Thursday
Sorry, still far behind, but I'll do my best to catch you guys up!
Woke up around 6:30 am to check out and walk to the bus stop by 7. Met up with the Oz experiance bus and the two other people that would be staying at the surf stop as well. Took about 3 hours to get down there and on the way the bus driver was hearing on the radio that the road down to Sydney might be closed because of flooding and the bus could not make it down there. By the time we got to the surf camp we heard for sure that the main road down to Sydney was closed until further notice. Since I was staying at the surf camp that night I didnt think anything of it. They put the other two people from the OZ bus and myself in our own cabin. There was Tim the scottsman and Katie from England. Both were really funny and we got along great. After having a quick lunch it was time for our surf lession. I was feeling really nervous for some reason but was super excited. We suited up into our wetsuits and headed off towards the beach.
We started our lesson on the beach, learning the best ways to get up on the board quickly, then after about a half an hour, we headed out into the water. It was surprisingly warm compared to how cold it was outside, almost didnt need the wetsuit. So the first several waves I caught I couldn't stand up, I was so used to boogie boarding that catching the wave was fine, but i would forget what to do with my feet! Finally, with some help from my coach, I stood up and rode the wave all the way in! It was amazing! after that I didn't really have a problem standing up. We surfed for about 2 hours then headed back in. I have the photos on the website, waiting until I get home to upload them
After an wonderful shower, Tim Katie and I headed back to our cabin to meet our new roomies, a couple from england named james and Ysabel who were coming up from Sydney going on to Byron, theywere to surf the next Day with Tim. We then heard about the ash cloud from Chile, that had canceled flight to New Zealand, I was begining to think that my vacation was falling apart. I decided not to worry about it and have fun with my roomies. We hung out for a bit, went into town with the rest of the camp to get food an booze, then came back for dinner. Unfortunatly thats when it started raining. After dinner, there was nothign else to do other than drink our beer in the cabin and try to keep warm. It was a fun night despite the weather.
Woke up at 7 am to get our free breakfast. Had to say goodbye to Katie who had decided to go to Sydney by train to catch her flight on time. Tim, Ysabel and James set off to surf, and I went back to sleep. Woke up when they came back around 10 to find out the road to Sydney was still closed, so I had to stay another night. We all had some lunch then went on a walk around the beach when the skies cleared, it was beautiful!
After saying goodbye to Ysabel and James who were going on to Byron, Tim and I decided to Kayak up the river. It was a little creepy, I knew there were not crocs in theis area of Australia, but my imagination would run wild. The river was beautiful and we went deep into the forrest, it was quite a sight!
After a couple hours of Kayaking we headed back and got ready for dinner. We heard that the road to Sydney would be closed AGAIN the next day, so Tim and I booked a train ticket from Coff's harbor to Sydney for the next day. It was more money, but I really wanted to get down there. A lot of the campers were going to a pub into town, but I still had some beer left from the night before so I asked the night manager if the people staying behind could make a bon fire. It was pretty tough since the would was so wet, but we succeeded. Met a ton of people that night, spent several hours around the fire, swapping storries and getting tipsy. Some of the boys got a little too tipsy and went a bit wild, which included streaking
Ended the night with packing up and then I hit the hay!
