Sunday the 5th and Monday the 6th
Sorry for the lack of writting, I have been so tired, I know, broken record. I will rty and catch up today and tomorrow...
So Sunday was another lazy day, had to recover a bit from the night before. I said good bye to my roomies that were moving out, and met my new roomate from Germany, also named Jenny. She was trying to get a return flight home to Germany, but couldnt get a hold of her airline, so she was stuck until she could reach them. She and I walked down to the city to try and find her a place that could help her reach the airline but most places were closed. She seemed bummed, so I took her to Pie Face and introduced her to the oh so yummy meat pies. After that we parted ways and I went to look for the bus stop that i would need the next day to get to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. After I found it, I parked myself at another coffee shop and enjoyed a few hours of reading.
When I got back to the hostel I found Jenny talking with our new roomie Yanna from Finland. I showered and us three girls went up to the hostel bar and got a few drinks. So here pitchers of Beer are called jugs and they also have "pots" which are just smaller glasses of beer, which I find is nice if you want one more beer but not a whole pint. I found this new size system facinating and the bartenders were pretty amused. After teasing some Scottish guys and convincing them that the three of us were Italian, we got one more drink, the Jenny and yanna went to bed. I was still awake since it was only 11 so I went up to the hostel movie theater and watched some movie from the 90s about spiders, it was pretty creepy. Then I headed down to bed.
I woke up a little earlier today since I was heading to the Koala Sanctuary. I asked Jenny if she wanted to go but she was going to the airport to see if she could schedule her flight there. I headed downtown, grabbed a meat pie and a red bull, then waited for the bus. It took about 30 minutes to get there, it was neat seeing the outside of the city, very green and jungly. We arrived at this beautiful park and I couldn't wait to get in!
Right away there are just pods of Koalas everywhere. They were seperated either by age or by family goups, wherever you turned, there was a cute Koala pretty close by. I checked out all the animals while I waited for the bird show.
The Birds of Prey show was amazing, the owls were so cute, and I answered a question right about the barn owl so I got to hold a dead mouse out for the owl to eat! Awesome! After that I went to go fulfill my girlish dream and hold a Koala. You can hold it for free and just have them take your picture with your own camera, but the 16 dollar donation went to expanding the sanctuary and you get some prints of your photo so I opted for that. The koala was much heavier than I expected, and was soft with wooly like fur. Here she is!
I got to hold her for a bit since I was the only one there at the moment, then I sadly had to hand her back...
After that I went down near the water because it was time to feed the Lorikeets. They are a wild parrot in the area and they feed them there at 3 everyday, so there were tons of them and they were LOUD!!! The keepers put a formula in these little tubs and they let us hold the tubs, the birds went wild and landed all over us. It was pretty fun, not surprisingly a lot of people freaked out when they landed on their heads, but I was used to it with Micky, except these birds were a bit bigger...
After that mayhem, I went over to the Kangaroo area, which was a bunch of acres of grass land and tons of roos hop around. I got some kangaroo food and a bunch bounded right up to me, it was totally weird at first and I was a little scared, but they were very sweet and calm, loved getting their ears scratched. Spent a long time in there just feeding them and watching other people interact with them.
After that I was pretty tired so I decided to head back to the city. I caught a bus back, grabbed a pizza for dinner and walked back to the hostel. There I met our new roomies from the UK, Clair and Izara. We chatted for awhile, then Jenny and I invited them out for a drink with us. There were pretty tired so they were going to hang back and catch a movie, so Jenny and I headed to the hostel bar.
That night was comedy night at the hostel, where local and traveling comedians were doing their stand up. We just wanted to get a few drinks and not really watch, so we snuck outside with our beers and didnt really watch any of the acts. By the end of it though Jenny was getting cold and so we went inside. I told Jenny that the comedian was cute and she said we should go chat him up afterwards. The last guy to go was really funny and the show ended. Jenny dragged me over to the cirlce of comedians and we started talking to them. After that she dragged me over to a table with an Irish guy and a Canadian named Phil (how she kept meeting these people, I dont know). We talk for awhile and then say we want to move onto The Tin Billy bar in the city more. Jenny flits off and Phil and I get up to start to go over there and again she comes up with a new guy saying he was one of the comedians and he wants to get us drinks. We introduce ourselves and his name was Mitch, and his friends were with him, a friends visiting from London who was originally from Brisbane named Morgan, and another guy I can't remember his name. They were taking off and told us to meet them at a bar called "Down Under" (original).
So Canadian Phil, Jenny and I head out to try Tin Billy's first, along the way I got into an argument with some Kiwis over dubstep (they were saying deadmau5 was dubstep and that it sucked... silly kids). When we got to Tin Billy's it was closed so we decided to find the Down under bar. We hail a cab, which was 6.50$ off the bat, and asked hi to take us there. The joke was on us because it was litterally 3 blocks away. We grumply pay the fee and head into the bar and met up with comedian Mitch and his friends. By now it was midnight so it was officially Jenny's birthday so I promplty told all the boys they had to buy her drinks, and they did! And they bought me drinks as well, I guess me being the only girl. I chatted with Morgan from London, we started dancing, he took off his shirt, all the girls screamed, we danced some more... The night was pretty long and pretty crazy. Lets just say we had lots of fun. :P
Canadian Phil, Mitch and Morgan were nice enough to walk us back to our hostel (not to mention Mitch parked there). Mitch and Phil were clearly into Jenny, who has a boyfriend in Holland, and sadly Morgan has a girlfriend in England (which he told me AFTER the bar). The single boys and I chose the wrong people... oh well, Morgan sitll walked arm in arm with me back to the hostel so that was cute. So yeah, my first official crazy night in Australia, with locals, and a Canadian. I love this place :P
