Surf Camp to Sydney

Day 1 and 2

Sooo... yeah, failed at this travel blog. One thing is that internet is so expensive over here, hard to have time to write everything down. I will write these last two entries from Melbourne and then finish up the rest of my trip from back home. I know it's not the same but I do want to have everything written down so I can look back and read through it, plus it will still be a good read for those of you who want to know about my adventures :) So more on Sydney...

Friday

Tim and I woke up in the morning for breakfast and we got ready for the OZ bus that was coming around 10:30. We watched some Aussie TV, some crazy morning show that was having it's 5th birthday, pretty similar to Good Morning America. Finally the OZ bus shows up and parks to let its passengers already travelling a chance to stretch. One of the passengers looked familiar, I went up to him and it was Tamir, my Israeli buddy from Surfers paradise and Byron Bay! He was trying to get down to Sydney too and was going to take the train as well. I introduced hime to Tim and then we said good bye to the surf camp and got on the bus. It was about an hour drive from the camp to Coff's Harbor, where we were catching the train. our bus driver was really nice and went out of his way to dive us to the station as well as to the super market so we could get some food for our travels. I got some crackers, cheese, chicken strips and chips for the 10 hour train ride, and sawpped a few things with the boys for a better meal. The train was about 45 minutes late just to add to the fun, but we settled into our seats and started off. The train went through some beautiful countryside, it was a great view, also saw the areas that were flooded fromt eh days before. I snoozed for awhile then had some snacks and wine with Tamir and Tim and we chatted. Thats pretty much all we did the whole trip, napped, eat and talked. FINALLY we arrived in Sydney, it turned out we were all staying at Base as well so we grabbed our bags and headed to the hostel. After a pretty long walk we finally made it to the hostel and we checked in. Being the crazy travellers that we were all three of us decided we should go out for a drink for our first night in Sydney, so we grabbed some Pie Face then went to the hostel bar, the Scary Canary. It was pretty bumping and crowded, couldnt even get on the dance floor. The three of us just drank our pints on the side and lazily looked on. After an hour we called it quits and went off to bed. Tim and Tamir were checking out the next day, so I made plans to meet up with them in the evening and said good night.

Saturday

I woke up around 11am Saturday morning since I was soooo tired from the day before. I had a quick breakfast and headed down to see the Harbor and the Sydney Opera house. It was a long walk, but beautiful the whole way. The city has very interesting architexture and a lot of art work and exhibits going on. I got to the harbor and was greeted by some fantastic sights. The Opera House and Bridge of course, but also the docks, the Skyline and the ferries, so much going on, I was so excited. I went up to a kiosk to see how much the tours were and I was given a deal on a 3 day attraction pass. I paid aroun 100$ to be able to get into every attraction in Sydney, including the Oper House tour, Aquarium, Wild Life park, museums, beach tours, ect. I started off right away and went on a speed boat tour of the harbor. The boat was pretty fun, playing rock music as we sped along, and then the guide giving us infor about the history of the harbor. Got some amazing views of the Opera House and bridge, as well as other parts of the bay and harbors. We came back to dock and I made it over to the Opera House just in time to do their in house tour. Our group was taken trhough out the two main building as we learned about the history of getting the house built as well as what kind of productions are put on there. We got to go into the main symphony hall as well as one of the big opera rooms. It was so beautiful and an awesome tour. I really wished I had time and money to go see an opera there, that will have to be for next time.

I headed back to the hostel to get ready for a night out with the T boys (Tim and Tamir). Went to a bar in Kings Cross, which is the party central of Sydney. There we met up with another guy I knew from Surfers Paradise and Byron, Bas from the Netherlands. We caught up, had a few drinks and danced a bit. I was talking to another very cute Dutch boy, and we seemed to be hitting it off. We came around to the age conversation, and I knew he had to be at least 22. When I told him how old I was he got this funny look on his face then I asked his age. He went from 28 to 25, and I told him to tell me the truth. The truth was he was 19, ARG!! We both laughed it off but then he went to the other side of the bar for the rest of the night... oh well. Me, Tim, Tamir, Bas and Bas' lady friend then went back to my hostels bar and finished the night off there. It was a long day and I had to get up early for the next round of tours...

Surf Camp Pt. 1

Wednesday and Thursday

Sorry, still far behind, but I'll do my best to catch you guys up!

Wednesday

Woke up around 6:30 am to check out and walk to the bus stop by 7. Met up with the Oz experiance bus and the two other people that would be staying at the surf stop as well. Took about 3 hours to get down there and on the way the bus driver was hearing on the radio that the road down to Sydney might be closed because of flooding and the bus could not make it down there. By the time we got to the surf camp we heard for sure that the main road down to Sydney was closed until further notice. Since I was staying at the surf camp that night I didnt think anything of it. They put the other two people from the OZ bus and myself in our own cabin. There was Tim the scottsman and Katie from England. Both were really funny and we got along great. After having a quick lunch it was time for our surf lession. I was feeling really nervous for some reason but was super excited. We suited up into our wetsuits and headed off towards the beach.

Surf Time

Surf Time

We started our lesson on the beach, learning the best ways to get up on the board quickly, then after about a half an hour, we headed out into the water. It was surprisingly warm compared to how cold it was outside, almost didnt need the wetsuit. So the first several waves I caught I couldn't stand up, I was so used to boogie boarding that catching the wave was fine, but i would forget what to do with my feet! Finally, with some help from my coach, I stood up and rode the wave all the way in! It was amazing! after that I didn't really have a problem standing up. We surfed for about 2 hours then headed back in. I have the photos on the website, waiting until I get home to upload them :)

After an wonderful shower, Tim Katie and I headed back to our cabin to meet our new roomies, a couple from england named james and Ysabel who were coming up from Sydney going on to Byron, theywere to surf the next Day with Tim. We then heard about the ash cloud from Chile, that had canceled flight to New Zealand, I was begining to think that my vacation was falling apart. I decided not to worry about it and have fun with my roomies. We hung out for a bit, went into town with the rest of the camp to get food an booze, then came back for dinner. Unfortunatly thats when it started raining. After dinner, there was nothign else to do other than drink our beer in the cabin and try to keep warm. It was a fun night despite the weather.

Thursday

Woke up at 7 am to get our free breakfast. Had to say goodbye to Katie who had decided to go to Sydney by train to catch her flight on time. Tim, Ysabel and James set off to surf, and I went back to sleep. Woke up when they came back around 10 to find out the road to Sydney was still closed, so I had to stay another night. We all had some lunch then went on a walk around the beach when the skies cleared, it was beautiful!

After saying goodbye to Ysabel and James who were going on to Byron, Tim and I decided to Kayak up the river. It was a little creepy, I knew there were not crocs in theis area of Australia, but my imagination would run wild. The river was beautiful and we went deep into the forrest, it was quite a sight!
Kayaking on the river

After a couple hours of Kayaking we headed back and got ready for dinner. We heard that the road to Sydney would be closed AGAIN the next day, so Tim and I booked a train ticket from Coff's harbor to Sydney for the next day. It was more money, but I really wanted to get down there. A lot of the campers were going to a pub into town, but I still had some beer left from the night before so I asked the night manager if the people staying behind could make a bon fire. It was pretty tough since the would was so wet, but we succeeded. Met a ton of people that night, spent several hours around the fire, swapping storries and getting tipsy. Some of the boys got a little too tipsy and went a bit wild, which included streaking ;)

Byron Bay Pt. 2

Tuesday

Sorry, its been so long, been super busy with our tight schedule... Anyway, more on Australia

So I awoke on Tuesday morning to clear skies and warm tempurature. FINALLY! I got up took a shower, ate some breakfast and headed to the beach. Our hostel was so close to the shore, just a short walk through the woods and you were there! I walked down to Fisheads and got some Fish and Chips for lunch and ate it on the beach. Watched some aussie guys play a game of football, that was fun :P

So I tanned and read on the beach for a couple hours, took a quick dip in the water before I headed back to the hostel. I grabbed some different shoes because I wanted to walk up to the lighthouse by sunset, and it looked decently close. I took off down the coast and as the sun was setting. It was a good hour walk when i finally got to the cliffs and the sun was going down, on this side of the bay there were so many surfers as the waves were so big. I asked someone which way the lighthouse was and he pointed me over the hill. After another 30 minute walk I rounded the corner only to see that the light house was yet on ANOTHER huge hill, way to far for me to get to before dark. So I took some pics of the cliffs at light house and turned around to go back. It was still an awesome walk, and one of the best sunsets I have seen!
Byron Sunset

After showering and getting ready, I met up with the Canadians and their friend Luke and we played some drinking games before we set out for the bar Cheeky Monkeys. We got on the hostels transport van and had a wild ride over there with some very enthusiastic german guys. Once we got there we met up with Tim Tam (Tamir) who was in the room with us in Surfers Paradise. It was our hostels night so we got free beer, Tamir made quite a collection.

Later in the night the bar held a competition for a free skydive, and had anyone who wanted to play to stand up on the main table, Me Meghan and Chole got up there along with some other guys and we had no idea what we were in for. Lets just say it was a heads or tails coin toss game, but if you lost the round, you had to say goodbye to a piece of your clothing.... yeah, thats all I'm going to say ;)

After a VERY interesting game I had another beers with the guys, then took Meghan back to the hostel because A; she was feeling sick, abd B; I had to be up at 6am to catch my bus to the Surf Camp. I got back packed up all my stuff and crashed.

Surfers to Byron

Sunday the 12th and and Monday the 13th

Sunday

Woke up to check out of the hostel, since my bus wasnt leaving until 3, i hung around in the movie room. It was raining earlier so I thought I couldn't go on the crazy slingshot that was across the road. My Canuck friends had all gone on it and said it was really worht it. Finally the skies cleared so Steve walked with me over there. I wasn't scared at all until I saw the people in front of me go. Its daunting when you hear grown men scream. Finally it was my turn, Steve didnt have any money left so he was going to take pics for me and one of the employess joined me. We were strapped in, sank down into a hole, then shot up so high in the air. It was so amazing! The views of the whole city and beach, right before you flip over backwards and started heading towards the ground again. So much fun that I went twice!

There I go!

There I go!

After that craziness, I got some lunch, watched Top Gun at the hostel, then headed to the bus stop with Steve, meghan and Chloe. They were taking the Greyhound, but we were arriving at the hostel around the same time so I would see them there. The Oz experiance bus picked us up and we were off! It was about a 2 hour bus ride, pretty raining and gloomy the whole way there. Our bus driver gave us some facts around the surrounding area, played some games, then I took a nap.
To Byron Bay

To Byron Bay

Finally get to Byron Bay, and it reminds me a lot of Santa Cruz and Northern California. Its a mid size beach town with lots of hippies, but I think the thing that made it seem like SC the most was the rain. We get to our hostel and Im up graded to a 4 bed room which was great. I wandered into town to look for dinner and foudn this great kabab place. Very tasty and filling ( and expensive)I took a shower, had some more snacks, watched 2 hours of "How I met your Mother", then fell right to sleep.

Monday

Woke up to even more rain, not just rain but a down pour. So much you couldn't even walk into town. I had bought some ceareal bars and apples the day before, so I ate those all day. I sat in the common area, read, went online and watched some movies. Finally the rain cleared up a bit so I wandered into town again. Hung out at one of the coffee shops the got a fish burger at the famed Fishhead, and it was sooooooo good. By the time I got back to the hostel the Canucks were making dinner and invited me to go play some board games. Of course, goon was involved :P We played some card games and then "Battle of the Sexes" which was the Australian version since we didnt know a lot of the questions. Called it a night around midnight, and went to bed hoping for a sun filled day for my last day in Byron....

So Im still far behind on my blog, just got to Sydney so hopefully i can crank through and catch up in the next few days. Thanks for reading :)

Surfers Paradise pt 2

Friday and Saturday

I'm in Bryron Bay right now and its pouring rain. I'm not in the best of moods since I'm missing out on a bunch of fun activities and I'm all alone in my hostel room. So I thought I would catch up on my travels...

Friday

Woke up with my room mates as they got ready to go to Movie World, a Universal Studios like theme park nearby. We said our good byes and I set out to explore the town and beach. It was the first sunny day in a long time and it was finally warm again! I thought that the weather might stay nice so I opted to just go swimming and lay out that day instead of surf... what a mistake. Anyways, I took the short walk from my hostel to the beach and was very please. The beach and water were beautiful, not a speck of trash on the sand. I hung around the beach for about 2 hours, relaxing, sunbathing and reading.

After awhile I headed into the town to check out the shops and get some coffee. It was fun walking around and seeing all the tourist stuff, again, it reminded me a lot of Miami, except here, there were wild parrots flying around.
Around town

After getting some dinner I headed back to the hostel to shower and get ready for the night. Every night at Surf 'N' Sun hostel the staff rounds up who wants to go and gets us free entry and a free drink to a certain club. My roomies wanted to pre-game before we went out so I was finally introduced to the GOON. Let me explain the Goon. I had first heard about it when I go to Brisbane. It's a large bag of nasty cheap white wine (box wine), but it is massive. Everyone travelling around OZ gets a bag becausue it's cheap and portable, but also very deadly....

So my roomates Steve, Meg, Chole and I started up a game of Kings Cup... afterwards we were def. ready for the club!
Goon Time

Goon Time

We met up with the rest of our hostel mates downstairs and headed out to the club Vanity. We got a free entry stamp (all the clubs in SP are 15$ or more) and a free drink voucher. When we got inside it was a typical party town club, Top 40 blasting, lazers, girls dancing on stage. It was fun!

After awhile Meg and Steve wanted to head back, but Meg wanted to stay so I chilled out and danced with her. I had heard that the club next door was having ladies night and ladies entered and drank free so Meg and I tried to go get it. We were stopped by some chick saying she was a party hostess and was rounding up girls to go into the club. We headed with her, but intsead of going to the new club we went back into Vanity. It was fine because we got more free drinks and got to sit in the VIP section. At the end of the night Meg and I walked back. She was super hungry so I said we should stop at.... you guessed it, Pie Face. She hadn't been there yet and she LOVEd the pie. We got back to the hostel and hit the hay.

Saturday

We all woke up pretty late after our night out, plus it was raining again. We watched That train movie with Chris Pine and Denz Washington, then I headed back out into town to find some lunch. I grabbed some subway and decided to go read at the beach, even though it was still pretty cold. I was really bummed I didn't go surfing the day before when it was gorgeous, oh well. After reading for about an hour I looked out and watched the extreme surfers out on the big waves, just then I was a water spout. There was a whale out on the horizon breaching and spouting. I tried to get a pic of it when it jumped out of the water, but I just kept getting the splash.

After some coffee I headed back to the hostel where we watched some family guy in the big screen room. That night the hostel was taking part in the "Backpackers Night out" in which you pay 30$ to get into 4 clubs and get free drinks at each club. Meg and Steve were too tired to go out (There's a couple for you) so it was just me and Meg. Around 9 we went down to join our hostel mates in a few drinking games before we left for the party bus. Meg had her eye on Jack (The Irish guy who drove me to the bus stop) so we chatted with him and his friends from Melbourne. We all got on the bus and then were off to Vanity, again. We danced there for a short bit then went to more of a pub place that had a band playing. There, the boys from the hostel staff kept slipping us more free drink vouchers and Jack flirted with Meg some more while I talked to Melbourne boys (cant remember their names). It was off to the next place which was very swanky. Got a fancy drink there and I met my first Americans here! They were from Arizona, so I talked and danced with them for a bit while Meg got friendly with Jack ;)

Finally we went to the last club but by then I was soooooo tired. I wasnt even drunk I just wanted to go to sleep and it really hit me then how much older I was compared to everyone there. We stayed because Meg kept trying to find Jack, whom we later found out had left and come back because she thought he left, and danced for about 2 hours. Uggg. We finally met back up with jack as we were leaving and he walked back with us. Stopped at Pie Face again :) then Meg went with Jack to his room (ooh la la) and I ate my meat pie on our porch. I was sooo tired I fel alseep in my club clothes as soon as my head it the pillow. Good thing I had packed to leave the next day before we left for the club...

Brisbane to Surfers

Thursday

So I had Jenny wake me up at 9am so I could get ready to check out. I was sad to leave and super sleepy but it had to be done. I turned in my key, left my bag behind the desk and went to get some coffee. My bus wasnt leaving until 1:30pm so I had some time to kill. Jenny and I went to the internet cafe for awhile, then we hung out at the hostel with Claire for a bit. At 1 I said farewell and headed for my bus stop. It was sad to say good bye, but I was ready to hit the Coast.

I made it to the hostel where the Oz Experience bus pick you up, and it was gloomy and FREEZING! I thought nothing of it because it was winter here, but I heard whispers of it being a record breaking cold. Traveled on the bus for over an hour until we got to Surfers Paradise. So Surfers is like Miami, high rises, beach town with hot night clubs, amusement parks nearby. Looks like it would be a wild time... if it wasnt soooo cold. I called my hostel when I was dropped off at the bus station and they sent a van to come pick me up. I talked to the driver (Who I later hung out with, his name was Jack from Ireland), and he said it was the coldest it has been in that area in almost a decade... great.

I got to the hostel and was shown around. It was a lot smaller than my last hostel, but very cool. Had a pool, large movie room with bean bags where you can request any movie you want, all the rooms were 6 bed or less and had their own bathrooms. No one was in my room when I went in so I went to sleep. I woke up to a guy wearing Stewie PJs from Family guy argunig with another girl in the room. At first I thought they were serious but then I realized they were just teasing each other. The guy was nicknamed Tim Tam and he was from Isreal, and the girl was Chole and she was there from Vancouver with he Boyfriend and best bud from home. We all introduced ourselves and got some food. I opted for a quiet night that night since I was so tired, so me and my roomies watched Due Date and Jackass 3 that night. Good way to recover...

Brisbane pt 3

Tuesday the 7th and Wednesday the 8th

Tuesday

Slept in pretty late again after our crazy night with the guys. After i climb out of bed and shower, jenny and i head over to her travel agency, Peter Pans to go and buy our zoo tickets for the next day. Peter pans was doing a deal where it was 70$ for the grey hound bus there and back and we tried to book it the day before but the computer wasn't putting us through. After we got our tickets and I got some coffee and surfed the internet there at their facilities for a couple of hours. Afterwards jenny and I played some wii bowling for a bit, then headed back to the hostel.

We hung around for awhile, talking with Clair and Izara. After dinner, Clair Jenny and I got ready and headed up to the bar to celebrate Jenny's birthday. That night was the "mini olympics" in the hostel. So Jenny and i signed up as a team and we had to find Clair a partner. Unfortunatly the only person they had for her was this creepy old guy, but it was still fun, We competed with other teams in fooz ball, basket ball and pool. Sadly jenny and I lost all of our games, and Clair and her partner did OK.

Afterwards we started telling all the guys it was Jenny's birthday so they would buy her drinks, and they did. To our dismay, the old guy wouldn't leave us alone and kept sitting with us. We were saved by Mitch the comedian, who had come by to visit "us girls", and to say happy birthday to Jenny. The old guy finally took the hint and left. We chatted with Mitch for awhile as we got more drinks for Jenny. We ended up getting the whole bar to sing her happy birthday and she got pretty red. After awhile she went to take a long phone call ( I think it was her boyfriend) and Mitch took that as a sign to leave. He invited us to his friends comedy show the next night at Tin Billy's and I said we would go for sure. I think he was bummed about Jenny, I don't know if she ever told him about her boyfriend. After he left, Clair and I danced to the house music with these really drunk canadians, I busted out some rave shuffle steps and everyone seemed pretty impressed! After that we found Jenny, put her to bed and called it a night. Tried to go to bed as early as we could since we had to be up by 7am to go to the zoo...

Wednesday

It was horrible waking up so early, I dont know how Jenny did it with how much she drank the night before. We made our way to the greyhound station that was pretty close and got on the bus. The ride was over an hour long so we both passed out for the whole trip. Before we knew it we were there! I had to find coffee right away otherwise I would not enjoy myself at all. I got a very expensive cup of coffee and we started our day. The Australia Zoo is more like an amusment park but it was one of the best zoos I have ever been to, next to San Diego. Here is a list of all we did:
- Fed Elephants, Watched a crazy croc show, saw the Irwin family shooting their animal planet show and got to watch Terri handle a giant crocodile, feed kangaroos, pet some koalas, pet a wallaby, pet a furry posseom, walked through a parrot habitat, got up close to tigers, and a ton more!

We were there for 7 hours and we bearly saw everything, it was a long awesome day. We both slept pretty well on the bus ride back.

I treated myself to, yes, another meat pie, and went back to the hostel to rest. We tried to get Clair and Izara to go out with us for my last night but they had job interviews in the morning, so Jenny and I headed up to the bar on our own. It was ladies night so drinks for girls were 3 bucks, and our fav bartender (who has a thing for Jenny) made our drinks decently strong for us. It was also karaoke night, and only a group of irish guys kept singing. Jenny didn't believe that I would go up and sing, and I signed up for Tainted Love. I was the first girl to sing that night so I got a lot of... cheers. After another drink, Jenny and I left for Tin Billy's to go meet up with Mitch. I don't kow why we were both so excited to see him, but we were, maybe Jenny more than i... we got there in the middle of the comedy show and he wasnt there, his friends recognized us from Monday night and we told them to text Mitch to come and see us! They did and he finally came by at the end of the show. We all got drinks, chatted with his friends, and he murdered me in two games of pool (although I claim it isnt my fault since the balls are smaller here...)

At the end of the night when we were all leaving the bar Jenny bounds over to me and asks if I want to go on a road trip with the boys. At first I said "hell no" since I had to leave the next day for Surfers Paradise and I wasnt driving to a new city with these guys. But then Mitch explaned he had to drop his friends back hom and they lived about 45 minutes away and they still wanted to hang out with us (hehe). SO I agreed since Jenny wanted to go so bad. We pile in the car with the four comedians and were on our way. All of them hounded me for being american the whole time, it was pretty funny, kept asking me the most ridiculous questions. After we dropped of one of Mitch's friends I jumped in the front seat and it was soooooo strange sitting on the left side of a car and not be driving. I kept going on and on about it and the guys seemed pretty amused in trying to scare me. After all the friends were dropped off Mitch drove us back to hostel. I tried to convince him to bring Jenny down to Surfers Paradise the next night and he seemed interested, we said our goodbyes. Finally went to bed at 2am, 3 hours later than i thought I would be out. I was sad about leaving the next day...

Brisbane pt 2

Sunday the 5th and Monday the 6th

Sorry for the lack of writting, I have been so tired, I know, broken record. I will rty and catch up today and tomorrow...

Sunday

So Sunday was another lazy day, had to recover a bit from the night before. I said good bye to my roomies that were moving out, and met my new roomate from Germany, also named Jenny. She was trying to get a return flight home to Germany, but couldnt get a hold of her airline, so she was stuck until she could reach them. She and I walked down to the city to try and find her a place that could help her reach the airline but most places were closed. She seemed bummed, so I took her to Pie Face and introduced her to the oh so yummy meat pies. After that we parted ways and I went to look for the bus stop that i would need the next day to get to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. After I found it, I parked myself at another coffee shop and enjoyed a few hours of reading.

When I got back to the hostel I found Jenny talking with our new roomie Yanna from Finland. I showered and us three girls went up to the hostel bar and got a few drinks. So here pitchers of Beer are called jugs and they also have "pots" which are just smaller glasses of beer, which I find is nice if you want one more beer but not a whole pint. I found this new size system facinating and the bartenders were pretty amused. After teasing some Scottish guys and convincing them that the three of us were Italian, we got one more drink, the Jenny and yanna went to bed. I was still awake since it was only 11 so I went up to the hostel movie theater and watched some movie from the 90s about spiders, it was pretty creepy. Then I headed down to bed.

Monday

I woke up a little earlier today since I was heading to the Koala Sanctuary. I asked Jenny if she wanted to go but she was going to the airport to see if she could schedule her flight there. I headed downtown, grabbed a meat pie and a red bull, then waited for the bus. It took about 30 minutes to get there, it was neat seeing the outside of the city, very green and jungly. We arrived at this beautiful park and I couldn't wait to get in!
Lone Pine

Right away there are just pods of Koalas everywhere. They were seperated either by age or by family goups, wherever you turned, there was a cute Koala pretty close by. I checked out all the animals while I waited for the bird show.

The Birds of Prey show was amazing, the owls were so cute, and I answered a question right about the barn owl so I got to hold a dead mouse out for the owl to eat! Awesome! After that I went to go fulfill my girlish dream and hold a Koala. You can hold it for free and just have them take your picture with your own camera, but the 16 dollar donation went to expanding the sanctuary and you get some prints of your photo so I opted for that. The koala was much heavier than I expected, and was soft with wooly like fur. Here she is!

I got to hold her for a bit since I was the only one there at the moment, then I sadly had to hand her back...

After that I went down near the water because it was time to feed the Lorikeets. They are a wild parrot in the area and they feed them there at 3 everyday, so there were tons of them and they were LOUD!!! The keepers put a formula in these little tubs and they let us hold the tubs, the birds went wild and landed all over us. It was pretty fun, not surprisingly a lot of people freaked out when they landed on their heads, but I was used to it with Micky, except these birds were a bit bigger...

After that mayhem, I went over to the Kangaroo area, which was a bunch of acres of grass land and tons of roos hop around. I got some kangaroo food and a bunch bounded right up to me, it was totally weird at first and I was a little scared, but they were very sweet and calm, loved getting their ears scratched. Spent a long time in there just feeding them and watching other people interact with them.

Give me a treat!

Give me a treat!

After that I was pretty tired so I decided to head back to the city. I caught a bus back, grabbed a pizza for dinner and walked back to the hostel. There I met our new roomies from the UK, Clair and Izara. We chatted for awhile, then Jenny and I invited them out for a drink with us. There were pretty tired so they were going to hang back and catch a movie, so Jenny and I headed to the hostel bar.

That night was comedy night at the hostel, where local and traveling comedians were doing their stand up. We just wanted to get a few drinks and not really watch, so we snuck outside with our beers and didnt really watch any of the acts. By the end of it though Jenny was getting cold and so we went inside. I told Jenny that the comedian was cute and she said we should go chat him up afterwards. The last guy to go was really funny and the show ended. Jenny dragged me over to the cirlce of comedians and we started talking to them. After that she dragged me over to a table with an Irish guy and a Canadian named Phil (how she kept meeting these people, I dont know). We talk for awhile and then say we want to move onto The Tin Billy bar in the city more. Jenny flits off and Phil and I get up to start to go over there and again she comes up with a new guy saying he was one of the comedians and he wants to get us drinks. We introduce ourselves and his name was Mitch, and his friends were with him, a friends visiting from London who was originally from Brisbane named Morgan, and another guy I can't remember his name. They were taking off and told us to meet them at a bar called "Down Under" (original).

So Canadian Phil, Jenny and I head out to try Tin Billy's first, along the way I got into an argument with some Kiwis over dubstep (they were saying deadmau5 was dubstep and that it sucked... silly kids). When we got to Tin Billy's it was closed so we decided to find the Down under bar. We hail a cab, which was 6.50$ off the bat, and asked hi to take us there. The joke was on us because it was litterally 3 blocks away. We grumply pay the fee and head into the bar and met up with comedian Mitch and his friends. By now it was midnight so it was officially Jenny's birthday so I promplty told all the boys they had to buy her drinks, and they did! And they bought me drinks as well, I guess me being the only girl. I chatted with Morgan from London, we started dancing, he took off his shirt, all the girls screamed, we danced some more... The night was pretty long and pretty crazy. Lets just say we had lots of fun. :P

Canadian Phil, Mitch and Morgan were nice enough to walk us back to our hostel (not to mention Mitch parked there). Mitch and Phil were clearly into Jenny, who has a boyfriend in Holland, and sadly Morgan has a girlfriend in England (which he told me AFTER the bar). The single boys and I chose the wrong people... oh well, Morgan sitll walked arm in arm with me back to the hostel so that was cute. So yeah, my first official crazy night in Australia, with locals, and a Canadian. I love this place :P
